Disciples’ Fellowship (often referred to as simply “DF”) is a group of Christians who began ministering and worshipping together in 2003 with a simple desire to seek after God. We had no grand plan for what we would be doing, but only a undefined sense of Pursuing Christ and how to live into the life that God grants by grace. We suspected that there was much more to this life of faith in Christ than what we had experienced.

Non-Membership

In this journey we try to be more relational and organic than organizational and institutional. We remind ourselves that DF has no members. Only the Body of Christ has members, and anyone who is a member of that Body is welcome as a non-member of DF.

There are no prerequisites for being part of our congregation, though we recognize the high calling of discipleship to Jesus. We do not want anyone to be committed to an institutional church, but to be thoroughly committed to Jesus and fellowship with one another in him. Together we seek to be transformed to become more like the One and Only Son who shows us God in the flesh. We recognize that this is the work of the Spirit which is accomplished as we seek God together.

Multi-Denominational

DF might be described as both non-denominational and multi-denominational. We are non-denominational because we identify with no single tradition. However, we do not want to disown the various traditions that have formed us, whether Protestant denominations or the older Catholic, Anglican, or Greek churches. We are multi-denominational because our various experiences span many traditions, and the richness of all of those traditions are valued and welcomed. What we have in common, as do all the Christian traditions, is a desire to seek God in the person of Jesus Christ.

Inter-Generational

We find that there is a spiritual richness in everyone being together rather than divided into age-specific or life-stage groups. All children are welcome in the worship time, and we have a children’s lesson to specifically include them in the whole gathering. Though we do have various children’s Sunday school classes after our worship time, our emphasis is to nurture connections no matter our ages. We fellowship, worship, and minister together in the confidence that God transforms us through many varied relationships.

Diversity

God’s creation, which is the physical outpouring of his love, displays overwhelming variety. Whatever is animated by the Spirit of God’s Love should reflect difference rather than sameness. DF is not a congregation of those who think alike, dress in a particular way, espouse a single set of social or political views, or who are from a certain slice of the socio-economic classes of the world. As a church we seek to be a community in which there is neither “Jew nor Greek, male nor female, slave nor free” . . . so we are sharing together without the typical social segregation of our world. If you gather with us, we  guarantee you will find yourself talking to people who are not like yourself.

Seeking

We seek to acknowledge the tension that exists within the mystery of our faith. We don’t have all the answers, and often hardly know how to ask good questions. No thoughts, doubts, or struggles are off-limits. We encourage an honest and vigorous engagement that gives room for where we are in life, rather than maintaining a false image that we’ve got everything together spiritually.

We are depending on God’s mercy, out of his eternal love, to save us, and not trusting in the correctness of our beliefs. We continue to seek, explore, ask, learn . . . and trust that God will lead us with wisdom and love.
