Dealing with Doubters

Now in what I am writing to you, I assure you before God that I am not lying.  –  Galatians 1:20

Paul is prepared for skepticism about his claims. Disbelief. Questions of his character, truthfulness, or even agenda. Though he states clearly that he is an apostle “through Jesus Christ and God the Father” he is prepared to face squarely the doubts even of those he’s taught. He seems to consider the questions legitimate enough to attempt a response rather than dismiss them entirely.

Perhaps he sees this as a further identification with the sufferings of Christ, who endured constantly questions of his qualifications and authority. Although some question Paul’s truthfulness and integrity, he does not in turn question the genuineness of his doubters.

Perhaps here we find an example of patience in dialogue even when others assert that we are lacking in integrity.
